Tips for Eating Healthy While Traveling with Kids

Parents of young children can be in a constant state of planning and preparation for them to eat well when they travel. Unfortunately, eating well when you travel is not always easy. We’ve all been stuck in a hotel when we’re traveling without kids and found ourselves in the unenviable position of trying to get the kids to eat well when they’re not hungry. Worse, we’ve no doubt been stuck in a hotel with a kid who doesn’t want to eat at some point in our lives. The good news is that several strategies can make eating healthy while traveling with kids a lot easier.

Children are a blessing, and they bring a lot of happiness and laughter into your life. But, they do come with a lot of extra baggage; they tend to eat a lot, especially when on a trip. Often, parents use these extra calories as a way to compensate for the feeling of being away from home. With that said, you don’t have to give up on your child’s wellbeing when traveling with them. You can still eat healthily and stay healthy while traveling with a child.

Make a Meal Plan Before You Leave

Planning healthy meals while on the road is difficult, especially when trying to please your picky child. For example, if you want to eat only fried foods while on vacation, that may seem like a good idea, but odds are you will find that you need to sneak some fried foods in with the vegetables, or compromise on the fried foods and make your compromise a fried-vegetable-less meal. Making a meal plan for yourself before you leave is a simple way to make sure you are all set to go.

Plunder the Breakfast Buffet

For many of us, the main purpose of a vacation is to relax and enjoy a little R&R. While that can be accomplished in many ways, a great way to relax is to take in a breakfast buffet. The options at a buffet are vast and come in all shapes and sizes, from a few small plates to a full omelet bar.

Choose Accommodation with Kitchen Facilities

It’s not good enough to travel with kids and not to have a kitchen. If you’re one of the people who are all about the outdoors, chances are you want to stay in an RV or trailer. No matter where you are, you want to have access to the basics. If you plan to eat hearty meals, you should have access to a kitchen. If you’re expecting to have a few meals a day, you should have a space for all of them.

Bring Nutritious and Healthy on the Go Snack

The holidays are usually a stressful time for families. They can be filled with stress, lack of time, and the stress of trying to get the kids to eat healthily! But it doesn’t have to be so hard. There are many ways to make eating healthy while traveling with kids easy, and there are tons of healthy snacks you can bring with you that kids will love, like granola bars, homemade trail mix, yogurt tubes, string cheese, fresh fruit, and tortilla roll-ups.

Bring Reusable Container

It’s hard enough trying to eat healthy while you’re traveling. Now, throw in the fact that you’re traveling with kids, and it’s practically impossible. What to do? If you’re like most people, you buy plastic containers, only to get home and find them molded, scratched, or even broken. And, if that’s not bad enough, you get stuck with these containers at home too, which you’ll have to throw out after the trip. When you’re packing your bags for a trip, don’t bring plastic containers. Instead, use reusable containers to pack healthy foods. Many choices are available, including flexible silicone containers, glass storage containers, flexible plastic containers, and more.

It is more important that we always secure the health of family even on traveling. It is nice that you can enjoy the bond together while eating delicious and healthy foods that you plan on your trip.
